Belgium found themselves two goals down at halftime against a rampant Senegal in a Round of 32 thriller, with both Diarra and Sarr striking to put the African side in control. But the Red Devils refused to fold. Lukaku sparked a revival in the 86th minute, and within three minutes Tielemans had levelled the score, forcing the match to extra time in a match that swung dramatically in the final stages.
Why it matters
Ours are out — Senegal in the round of 32. Win or go home.
Kevin De Bruyne
Belgium
The creative heartbeat Belgium will lean on to make their attacking edge count.
Sadio Mané
Senegal
Still the heartbeat of the side and the man Senegal lean on when the big moments arrive.
Senegal have squeezed through as one of the best third-placed sides. Not the comfortable route — but a place in the last 32 is a place in the last 32, and the knockouts don't care how you got there.
Belgium are into the last 32. Job done in the group, and now the tournament really begins — one-and-done from here, every match a final.
And there it ends. Belgium fall to Spain, and a summer of following them is over. It stings now — but what a ride it was, and there's no shame in going out swinging.
